Talofa Lava Parents and Caregivers

Welcome back to Rowandale School for 2015. My name is Junior Siilata and I am very excited to assist your child in their learning this year. I am Samoan and have lived in South Auckland for the majority of my life.
Over the past few days, we have been developing our Treaty and routines for our classroom that will enable us to learn in a positive and caring environment. I am looking forward to the new journey with the fantastic ‘Unstop-a Bulls’ in Room 21.

For your information here are a few notices:

Uniform: It was really awesome seeing the students come back to school in their uniforms. Due to the weather it is very important that students remember to wear the correct school hat or a hat with a brim for sun protection. Please make sure that each uniform item is named so your child can take care of their belongings.

Swimming: Our swimming days are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday every week.  Please ensure your child brings their togs and towel in a named plastic bag on these days.

Class Blog: We have created a class blog! You will be able to see all the learning that’s taking place in class. We will be posting up all of our learning experiences throughout the year so you can share it with all your whanau and friends from home. The link to this page is: http://rs15unstopabulls.blogspot.co.nz/

Topic: This term our topic is ‘Warriors of Rowandale – Turangawaewae’ (Our Place).  The focus is on developing our understanding of our place in our school, family, community and the world. We are also learning about our School Values, which are Respect, Integrity, Persistence and Co-operation.

Educational Trips: Learning outside of the classroom is very important for our students.  There will be several trips this year, which will be very exciting! More information about these events will be sent home closer to the time.

Homework: For homework, the children will have a reading book each night and maths basic facts sheet. It would be great if you could support your child in these areas.

If you have any queries about this information or school in general please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I look forward to working along side you and your child this year.
